An Easy Christmas Craft for Kids
Oh, the anticipation and excitement of Christmas Eve! The reindeer food has been sprinkled on the lawn. You’ve read a delightful Christmas book or watched The Polar Express for the fiftieth time, but you still can’t get your little one to settle down and go to sleep! I’ve discovered the perfect quick and easy Christmas craft that just might convince your kid it’s bedtime on Christmas Eve!
Santa Spotters
Santa Spotters are the perfect quick and easy Christmas craft for kids of all ages. You can let children make them ahead of time, or they’re simple enough to make on Christmas Eve to wrangle in restless kiddos! Santa Spotters are MAGICAL binoculars that help children spot Santa in the sky!
Materials You’ll Need for this Easy Christmas Craft
Gather the following materials for this project:
- Toilet Paper Tubes
- Yarn
- Hot Glue Gun
- Hole Punch
- Various self-adhesive stickers and embellishments
- Christmas Washi tape
- Colorful Pipe Cleaners
If you think recycled toilet paper tubes are icky, you can actually purchase clean, fresh cardboard tubes that are conveniently already white! Find them at Oriental Trading. Click any of the images below to check out the craft supplies! Read my disclosure on affiliate links.
You’ll also want to print out my “OFFICIAL SANTA SPOTTER” badges as well as the Santa Spotter poem to add to your craft. These FREE PRINTABLES are available to download at the bottom of this post!
Directions for this Easy Christmas Craft
Ready to see how truly quick and easy this Christmas craft is? Hot glue two cardboard tubes together like binoculars. Punch a hole in one side of each tube and string yarn through it to serve as a neck strap. I do this step ahead of time to simplify things.
Then, I give each child a bag of embellishments and some strips of Washi tape and let them get creative in designing their own unique and magical pair of Santa Spotters. I love their creativity! By the way, aren’t these peppermint striped pipe cleaners the CUTEST? You can find them HERE. And, you can find some colorful self-adhesive star stickers HERE.
This craft is a fabulous fine motor activity as well. As children peel the backs off the tiny jewels and stickers, they build dexterity and develop their pincer grasp. Peeling the tape is also a great fine motor activity.
The Final Product
I’m always amazed by how colorful and creative the children’s designs are. Add a fancy embellishment like this poinsettia from the dollar store for even more flair! It would also be fun to add some jingle bells to the ribbon. Oooh…..the possibilities are endless! Be sure to download the FREE PRINTABLES to go along with this easy Christmas craft for kids (found at the bottom of this post).
