Digital Educational Activities Kids Can Do at Home

Digital Educational Activities

Are your little ones stuck at home over summer break or during a school closure?  Many kids (my own included) get bored quite quickly, so over the next few days and weeks I’m going to share some solutions to keep your kiddos occupied and engaged!  First up are some digital educational activities that you can do on a tablet, phone, or computer!

Educational Apps

We definitely don’t want our children (or our students, if you’re a teacher) falling behind during long absences from the classroom.  Many children have a device of their own or are able to borrow their parents’ phone if needed.  These math and reading apps are some of my favorites to promote learning and to keep children engaged and entertained.

Believe me…your child’s teacher will THANK you when these lengthy breaks are over and your child is still strong in math and literacy skills!

You’ll be able to download a printable list of these apps at  the end of this post!

Online Storytime Resources

Vooks is a fabulous storybook streaming app that will surely keep Preschool through elementary children engaged.  The app features REAL children’s books brought to life with animation, music, and magic!

They are currently offering a free 30 day trial for parents.  After the trial period, it’s just $4.99 per month, so you  may want to continue your subscription.  You can sign up for your free trial  here!

Miss Booksy is another one of our favorite story-tellers on Youtube.  She combines classic stories like nursery rhymes and fairy tales with fun costumes, animation, and an adorable personality.  Check her out HERE.

If you’re looking for read-alouds on Youtube, I love Storytime at Awnie’s House.  Her channel features dozens and dozens of wonderful read alouds that children of all ages will love.  Here’s an example of one of my students’ favorite books:

Brain Breaks for Wiggly Kids

Being stuck at home away from friends is tough on children.  Add in a rainy day and it’s almost unbearable!  These are some of my favorite brain breaks and indoor movement ideas to help children through a long period of boredom!

My preschoolers love Cosmic Kids Yoga.  Jamie is a great storyteller who combines fantastic scenery and stories with yoga moves that focus and calm kids.  My students literally BEG to do her Yoga sessions!

You can access her videos on Youtube, on the Cosmic Kids website, or even on their new app!

GoNoodle Indoor Recess videos are another teacher tested favorite.  These videos range from 10-15 minutes and include a variety of fun movement songs to get kids up and at it.

Fun and Educational Songs on Youtube

Teachers know firsthand that Youtube houses LOTS of educational content.  In fact, children can practice everything from counting to learning the sign language alphabet with a good Jack Hartmann video!

Here are some of my favorite educational Youtube channels that include songs your child will love to sing during school breaks.

Jack Hartmann’s Kids Music Channel is my all time FAVORITE!  Children can practice things like sight words, counting, rhyming, recognizing letters, the sign language alphabet, shapes, and more.

Plus, there are plenty of silly, just-for-fun songs on this Youtube channel, too!  Find Jack Hartmann’s amazing selection of educational videos HERE.

Another favorite Youtube channel for kids’ music is The Learning Station.  We love silly songs like Tony Chestnut, Boom Chicka Boom, and Bear Hunt.  You can find The Learning Station here.
