As teachers, we know that it’s CRITICAL for our students to keep reading during the summer. Summer reading helps combat summer learning loss. Most students lose up to one month of instruction over the summer, but struggling students lose even more. Summer reading programs are one solution to help combat the summer slide. But, let’s face it. If the program isn’t fun….AND if there isn’t some kind of reward attached, students are even less likely to want to read. So I think I’ve come up with the solution!
Here’s how the program works:
I’ve also included an option for parents to determine and give a reward if you don’t typically see your former students at the beginning of a new school year!

I’ve even included some suggested reading lists for 1st through 3rd graders in case you want to send those lists home with your kiddos. (UPDATE: A Kindergarten Reading List has been added as well!)

Simply print out the explanation, reading list, and parent letter. Attach the appropriate calendars for your summer months. Then, purchase sheets of mini stickers from The Dollar Tree or Dollar Spot. Attach enough stickers for each child to have to get them through their summer.
