Dental Health lessons and activities are some of my favorites during the month of February. I put together a unit with a mix of crafts, writing prompts, experiments, and more to make learning about teeth one of my students’ favorite units to date! Keep reading to see exactly what my students learned!
We began by reading this FABULOUS Book:

This book is jam-packed with factual information about teeth presented in a fun manner! After learning about the anatomy of teeth, we made an anchor chart which we labeled.
Then, students were able to make their own Anatomy of a Tooth projects. This was lots of fun and the students truly retained what they were learning by doing such a hands-on project.
We also used the many facts we learned about teeth to make little tooth booklets full of tips and facts. I was so impressed with everything the students chose to include in their booklets!
Another fun project involved making a ginormous toothbrush out of a sentence strip and writing about how to brush. How-To Writing is an essential first grade writing skill, so this was a fun way to practice!

This is, hands down, one of my favorite books for dental health! It’s also perfect for implementing into your Presidents Day studies! After reading this book and learning about poor George Washington’s horrible dental health history, we decided he could use some advice:
The crafts made the perfect hallway and bulletin board displays while still being educational!
Those are just a few of the fun activities in my newest unit. Here’s a peek at everything else it includes!
