A Teacher’s Message to Parents during Covid
Hey, parents! I know you didn’t sign up to be a teacher. I know you have your own full time job to do each day in addition to working on lessons at home. I know you didn’t grow up learning Common Core Math. Shoot, we didn’t either! But you did the best you could to help your child learn anyway.
I know you’ve had a lot of long days and long nights, tears, frustration, and anxious moments. I know you never intended to home school your children, but you were forced to do it for almost 1/4 of the school year. And you proved you can do hard things!
I know your child missed their friends and their teachers, and this just broke your heart because as a parent you were helpless to “fix it.”
I know there was probably a little too much tablet and TV time and not all the assignments were completed. But that’s ok. I mean, I’m a teacher and my own child has gotten too much tablet time during this crazy experience as well.
Know that NO TEACHER wanted our school year to end this way. Not one single teacher. We love your children like they were our own. We go to bat for them. We make sacrifices for them. We celebrate when they learn, and our heart breaks when they struggle.
We wanted to finish out this year with the exhaustion of chorus concerts, Honors Day, Field Day, final exams, graduation ceremonies, and parent teacher conferences as much as you wanted to.
Many of us were in the same boat as you–trying to teach remotely while also being sure our own child did their schoolwork. It wasn’t easy. We feel your pain.
But doggone it, we’ve done it! The end of the school year is in sight, and we are more appreciative of EACH OTHER than ever before. We’ve realized that we are truly a TEAM.
Parent Certificates for COVID Homeschooling
In celebration of all that you have accomplished helping to educate your child(ren) at home, and in appreciation for all the ways you’ve sacrificed and struggled to be sure your child continued to learn, we’d like to give YOU an award.
So go ahead. Print this certificate out and hang it proudly on your refrigerator.
You are a ROCK STAR. And your child is so very lucky to have us both on his team. Let’s vow to ALWAYS work together–families and teachers.

I just emailed you a reply with this question: Do you think that you could do the certificates in Spanish? I would love to provide a certificate to my bilingual parents if I am to give them to my regular ed parents. If you need it translated, I would happily do so.

This is wonderful! It brought tears to my eyes as I am sure it will to my parents in the class. You are so kind to share this freely with teachers such as myself.

Any chance of an editable version? In Australia we haven’t reached the end of a school year.

Thank you so much for this! I was looking for one for almost 2 weeks. I tweaked it, printed one for each family, and laminated them. I hope my parents like them because they did so much for my students and they should be recognized for it. Thank you again.
