If you’re a homeschooler, a parent, or a Christian school teacher, I’m sure you’re always looking for ways to bring Bible stories to life. We need ways to make things that happened LOOOONG ago relatable and concrete. I was so excited to discover HelloBible, a Christian subscription box for children.
My daughter and I tried out the Abraham Premium Box. She’s in third grade, and we were both so excited when the box arrived on our doorstep. I simply love the little Donkey mascot featured on all the materials. Just as the donkey carried Jesus during Passover week, he’s here to carry the Word into our homes in this fabulous subscription service! Here’s a peek at the box we received.
The story of Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac is one of my personal favorites. The book included in the box is from Arch Books. The illustrations were colorful and beautiful, and the rhyming text was completely engaging even for my third grader. In fact, after I read the book to her she insisted on reading it aloud 2-3 more times herself. She even had me look online for the rest of this book collection because she was interested in us ordering it. As a first grade teacher with a Master’s degree in reading, I’m picky about how stories are written. The literature did not disappoint. I was very pleased with the rhyming text, the storyline, and the note to parents in the back of the book!
The story set the stage for everything else which was included in the box.
Each box contains a card like this to guide you in exploring the box with your child.
Each activity also includes an instruction card with step by step, illustrated instructions.
Being an independent third grader, my daughter actually wanted to read the instructions and complete the activities independently. The instructions were clear enough for her to follow with very little assistance on my part!
The Activities: Bring Bible Stories to Life
The first activity she did was to make a star garland. Since God told Abraham that his descendants would be more in number than the stars in the sky, this was the perfect craft! The kit came with all of the materials for this craft and each activity. I didn’t have to round up a SINGLE thing for my daughter to complete the activities. That’s HUGE!
We hung the completed star garland on our mantle and turned out the lights. What a beautiful reminder of God’s covenant with Abraham!
Next, she created a prayer journal. I loved the guide that came with this activity showing her ways to actually use her prayer journal.
I also love that this kit comes with a related scripture verse for children to commit to memory. Children can place each month’s scripture on this ring to constantly review. Notice mention of The Kilgoris Project on this card? HelloBible donates $2 per box to this fund which educates and feeds children in rural Kenya. This makes me feel extra good about using HelloBible.
My Overall Impression
This is a very new subscription service that is specifically geared toward children in Christian homes and schools. My daughter enjoyed the activities, and I loved spending this time with her. As a teacher and a mom, I felt the activities were best geared toward first through fifth grades. The instructions were extremely clear, all materials were provided, and each activity related to the theme of Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac.
If you’re looking for a way to bring the Bible to life for your children or students, I highly suggest looking into this subscription service. You can check it out here.
**I was provided these materials free of charge in exchange for an honest review. I do not endorse any products, services, or companies that I do not whole-heartedly believe in.**
