I have developed a January and February fluency packet to help my kiddos break out of the Robot Rut! I will also be working on subsequent months. I’m so excited about this product! My kids are great decoders now. So it’s time to ramp up our reading and work on fluency.
Each packet includes a parent letter, 4 weeks of fluency homework logs, original poems and poetry response pages, corresponding fluency passages, and at home fluency games or activities.
They also include 3 seasonal Reader’s Theater scripts to do in small groups AND 2 whole class or small group fluency games and activities. For February my students will be doing the “Conversation Hearts” activity. Students will choose a card and change their tone and expression based on who is talking to fluently read the conversation snippet. Students will also do a “Love Letters” Activity. I’ll have these Valentines in envelopes, and students will take out a letter and read it fluently. This is fun to do with a timer, too. Have students time themselves the first time they read it and then reread it and see if they can improve their time.
Each monthly fluency packet has different poems, different home activities, and different classroom games. I’m trying to keep things fresh and fun each week so students will stay engaged and excited!
I’ve also put together a fluency freebie packet for you to introduce your students to the concept of fluency. You can snag it here:
